Basic Engineering and Applied Science

Introduction

The Department of Basic Engineering & Applied Science is an integral part of the College of Technology at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology (SVPUAT), Meerut. It was established with a vision to lay a strong foundation in basic and applied sciences, which underpins teaching and research across agriculture, allied sciences, and technology disciplines.

The faculty of the department fulfills its academic mandate by integrating the latest scientific knowledge and innovative techniques into nearly all professional programs offered at the University.

As one of the core departments of the University, the Department of Basic Engineering & Applied Science plays a crucial role in delivering both undergraduate and postgraduate instruction across various academic programs. Additionally, it provides essential academic support to other colleges within the university, includingCollege of Post-Harvest Technology & Food Processing (CoPHT&FP), College of Sugar Science and Technology (CoSST), College of Biotechnology (CoB), College of Agriculture (CoA), College of Horticulture (CoH).

Beyond classroom instruction, the department places strong emphasis on research, innovation, and practical application. Students are actively encouraged to participate in projects, design competitions, and activities that address contemporary challenges in science, agriculture, and rural development. The department also maintains strong industry linkages, facilitating internships, academic collaborations, and industrial visits, all of which enhance students’ hands-on skills and professional readiness.

Mandate:

To improve the analytical and problem-solving skills of students across various disciplines by providing foundational education in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

Objectives:

  • To develop skilled human resources in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • To offer academic and technical guidance to students, researchers, and scientists for the analysis of their research data.
  • To supervise and support students from various disciplines in fulfilling the academic requirements of their respective programs.
  • To promote interdisciplinary research and innovation in basic and allied sciences.
