Mushroom Laboratory

Mushroom Laboratory

Mushroom laboratory in S.V.P.U.A.&T. Meerut has been established in 2008 which was strengthened with the help of N.H.M./U.P.C.A.R. financed project i.e. “Establishment of Mushroom spawn Laboratory” for the period 2008-2009. The Teaching of Under Graduate course like Experiential Learning and RAWE programme on mushroom production has been started. Post graduate Teaching and research (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) work on mushroom has been started in Mushroom laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology, S.V.P. Univ. of Ag. & Tech., Meerut (U.P.) from academic session 2008-09. Research activities at mushroom laboratory include basic strategies, applied research and validation on production technologies to enhance productivity of edible mushroom. Extension activities include Farmer advisory service, Training and demonstrations of production Technology are also being organized with help of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the University with technical support of mushroom laboratory.

Infrastructure of Mushroom laboratory

Mushroom laboratory have one well equipped spawn laboratory and four crop rooms.

Spawn Lab

Mother/commercial spawn of cultivated mushrooms are made available to researchers and mushroom grower on payment basis.

Crop Rooms

Three experimental crop rooms and one spawn running room are available for mushroom production under different environmental condition.

With the above facilities and other departmental facilities mushroom research and spawn production work has been started. But Mushroom compost Unit and some additional facilities (equipments, glassware, chemicals and skilled/Unskilled persons etc.) is required to meet the demand of teaching, Research and Extension (training and demonstration) facilities to disseminate production technologies for mushroom growers in western Uttar Pradesh.

Opportunities

To provide technical support by training and demonstration for production as well as supply of pasteurized compost of growers, the pasteurized mushroom compost until will be beneficial for self employment generation in jurisdiction area of the university. The teaching and research activities for different edible and medicinal mushroom. Therefore development of infrastructure facilities of mushroom laboratory will take place.

Rationale

In Uttar Pradesh, due to availability of unemployed rural youth as man power, cheap raw materials and climate, mushroom production should be very useful in districts under SVPUA&T, Meerut as major portion comes near N.C.R. Delhi. This will be easier to approach the market for mushroom. It will help to generate self employment. Therefore, it is desirable to provide technical support in form of training as well as demonstrations of production technologies of different mushrooms and their spawn through proposed project.
