College of Veterinary & Animal Science

Animal Genetics & Breeding

Infrastructures

Introduction

The Department of Animal Genetics & Breeding was started as a constituent department of the college of Veterinary and Animal sciences in the year 2011 with the admission in under graduate programme of B.V.Sc. & A. H.

Objectives
  • To carry out education in the field of Animal Genetics & Breeding.
  • To undertake research in the field of Animal Genetics & Breeding.
  • To develop breeding strategies for the improvement of livestock sector as and when required.
  • To educate the farmers of western Uttar Pradesh about sustainable Livestock production with their genetic improvement.
Vision
  • Under graduate teaching as per MSVE -2016.
  • Post graduate teaching as per ICAR standards.
  • Extension activities like Animal Judging, Kisan Mela etc. will be continued as already going on.
  • Strengthening of existing laboratories.
  • Master’s programme has been approved in our Department of AGB, so keeping that in view we would try to establish a PG laboratory equipped with all essential equipments and necessary chemicals required for atleast basic research.
  • In coming future we would like to work in the area related to disease resistance in animals by correlating the animal breeding data with the findings at molecular level. So these findings may help animal breeders to select animals from some particular breeds at an early age, which may help them to evolve new breeds/ strains/families with resistance to diseases causing huge economic loss to farmers.
Research Activites

Masters programme has been approved in the department, so research activities will take place in future and one research project on Muzaffarnagari Sheep genetic improvement has already been submitted to UPCAR, Lucknow.

Extension Activities

Participation in Animal judging and consultancy to farmers during Kisan mela every year.
