Message
The College of Veterinary and Animal Science was established in the year 2011 as constituent College of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University Agriculture & Technology, Meerut to impart teaching, research and extension in the field of animal health and animal husbandry. As per the norms of Veterinary Council of India the College comprises of 17 departments cutting across the broad clinical and non clinical disciplines. Animal husbandry has been gaining more importance to the farmers in view of declining land holding. As per 19th Livestock census, 2012(GOI,2014) India’s Livestock sector is one of the largest in the world with a population of 512.05 million livestock, 729.2 million poultry and shared 15.06% cattle, 57.83% buffaloes, 7.14 % sheep, 17.4% goats, 2.18% camel, 1.3% equine and 1.2% pigs of the world. However, their productivity is very low in comparison of developed countries due to poor genetic potential, nutrition and health management. The College is equipped with highly qualified faculty and assisting staff and also equipments relevant for graduate & Post graduate education.
Infrastructure
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology is the first Agriculture University of 21st Century in the country. The College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences has been established in the year 2008 with an objective to impart quality education in the field of Veterinary sciences & Animal husbandry leading to the degree of B.V.Sc. & A.H. The post graduate programme agenda has been approved for the Department of Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary Physiology & Biochemistry and Animal Genetics & Breeding, Veterinary Parasitology, Livestock Production Management and likely to be started very soon.
Mandate
- Advancement of education in Veterinary & Animal Sciences subjects for development of human resources who can apply their acquired knowledge and skills to diversify and industrialize Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences and other Allied sectors for socio-economic transformation of the rural society of Uttar Pradesh in particular and country in general.
- Conduct basic, strategic and applied research in Agriculture and alied sciences.
- Undertaking Field and Extension programmes.
The College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences is headed by Dean. At present, well designed and equipped 17 departments, established as per the guidelines of Veterinary Council of India (VCI) namely the Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry, Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, Veterinary Parasitology, Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary Public health and Epidemiology, Animal Nutrition, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Livestock Production Management, Livestock Products Technology, Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education in addition to Veterinary Clinical Complex and Instructional Livestock Research Farm Complex are running in the college.
The College of Veterinary & Animal sciences is equipped with 21 lectures hall furnished with comfortable seating arrangement and quality white/green boards for instructions. The 03 major classroom having interactive facilities of audio-visual teaching & DVD presentation like LCD projection system enhancing the instructional and teaching capacities with an enhanced comprehension of the students. All laboratories are well equipped with modern scientific instruments. The University is fully residential and separate hostels for boys and girls are available in the campus with all facilities.
